WordPress Theme Competition

There’s a silly competition going on for WordPress Themes.

I’ve decided to go ahead and give them the link notoriety they’re asking for, since I’ll probably end up adopting one of the entries as the appearance of this website, but my linking them doesn’t come without some commentary.

Here’s a short list of why I call it “silly”

  • The judges identities are secret
  • The entries are secret
  • The homepage doesn’t mention the secrecy of the identities
  • The homepage doesn’t mention the prizes.

Ray Nagin: New Orleans and God’s Wrath?

Heard an audio clip of Ray Nagin – Mayor of New Orleans – saying during MLK day (paraphrased): “God is angry with the US… likely over the war in Iraq… and that’s why He sends hurricane after hurricane to beat up New Orleans.” I was driving, I couldn’t write it down or record it.

But I couldn’t help but wonder… “Mayor Nagin, are you sure that wrath isn’t over… Mardi Gras? God’s got pretty good aim. I’m pretty sure he’d punish our presence in Iraq in… um, Iraq. After all – when He was upset over Sodom and Gomorrah, he didn’t torch Jerusalem.”

I’ve spent a good deal of time this week un-doing performance improvements because they clash with acceptable practices at work. It’s brought this saying to mind:

“To an idiot with a hammer, everything looks like a nail.”
